“Li-Pen is a civil engineer with expertise in hydro-meteorology, applied statistics and software development. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering and an MSc degree in Computer Aided Engineering from National Taiwan University. Since very early in his career, Li-Pen developed a passion for applied research which later led him to pursue a PhD in urban flood modelling and forecasting at Imperial College London. ”
Prior to joining MiCRO, Li-Pen worked as a researcher at Imperial College London (UK) and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), as well as independent consultant. In his role as researcher he was involved in several UK and EU funded research projects focusing on flood risk management. His main research interests include multi-sensor data combination based upon the theories of Bayesian statistics and fractals, and stochastic spatial-temporal rainfall modelling based upon point process theory, advanced image processing techniques and GPU programming.
In his role as consultant, Li-Pen has been involved in a variety of projects ranging from the development of rainfall models to be used for the design of critical infrastructure to the implementation of operational weather and flood forecasting systems in Taiwan, Malaysia and Laos.
Li-Pen is a C/C++ and open data enthusiast and enjoys a good statistical challenge. He is a Mandarin Chinese native speaker, is fluent in English and is working on his Spanish.
